Celebrating Great Yarmouth’s Heritage with Exclusive ‘Herring Bridge Pale Ale’
SUMMARY The Blackfriars Tavern, an award-winning pub known for its dedication to Real Ales and Still Ciders, is proud to announce the brewing of a special English Pale Ale – the Herring Bridge Pale Ale. This exclusive brew celebrates the opening of the Herring Bridge in Great Yarmouth on February 1, 2024. This celebration beer not only highlights the Tavern’s unique brewing capabilities but also pays homage to the town’s rich herring industry heritage.
[GREAT YARMOUTH, 1/Feb/2024]: In recognition of the opening of the Herring Bridge, The Blackfriars Tavern, an esteemed establishment holding titles like “CAMRA runner up pub of the year 2022 and 2023” and “CAMRA runner up cider pub of the year 2023” introduces the Herring Bridge Pale Ale. Crafted by Pharez Smith, the owner and brewer at The Blackfriars Tavern, this session pale ale boasts a 3.9% ABV, making it an ideal choice for those wanting a session pale ale.
Brewed with local Norfolk grain, the Herring Bridge Pale Ale not only embodies the region’s brewing tradition but also captures the essence of Great Yarmouth’s historical connection to the herring industry. During the early 20th century, Great Yarmouth’s quaysides were bustling with drifters returning from the North Sea, laden with herring. This new bridge, aptly named after the industry that once thrived in the area, is a testament to the town’s enduring spirit.
Pharez Smith comments, “At The Blackfriars Tavern, we’re not just brewing beer; we’re weaving the story and heritage of Great Yarmouth into every pint. The Herring Bridge Pale Ale is a tribute to the hardworking men and women who shaped our town’s history, and we’re proud to be part of this new chapter with the opening of the Herring Bridge.”
A lucky enthusiast just hit the jackpot with a diverse collection of English real ale, trendy craft beer in cans and a couple of unique bottled beers. Over the weekend, we ran our successful beer and cider festival which gave people the opportunity to enter a free draw. Congratulations to the winner, Julian C.
